OCDSB Welcome to High School

Reg Lavergne is the Superintendent of Instruction for Southeast schools, and for the Ottawa-Carleton Virtual Secondary School (OCVSS). Within this role, Reg supports innovative and alternative approaches to Student Success and Adolescent Learning.

For 23 years, Reg has served students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 in rural, urban, large, small, adaptive, and community schools as a teacher, department head, Vice-Principal and Principal. He has also served as the System Principal of Student Success and Innovation and Adolescent Learning.

Currently, Reg is working on an Educational Doctorate degree focused on increasing student voice and identity in student learning experiences. He is also designing and implementing the Authentic Student Learning Experience framework in order to embed student voice, and is working with SSTs to build a model for Student Success for students in grades 7 and 8, and grades 9-12.

At the OCDSB, Reg has greatly enjoyed working with teachers to build and implement learning models and approaches that help students see their own genius.

Shannon Smith (she/her) is the Superintendent of Indigenous Education, Equity and Human Rights at the OCDSB. Her background in education spans K - 12 as both an educator and administrator. She recognizes first and foremost her commitment to upholding and protecting the rights of all students while disrupting systemic discrimination and coloniality that permeate the learning and working spaces of the OCDSB. Shannon serves both the OCDSB Advisory Committee on Equity and the Indigenous Education Council and shares responsibility for ensuring accountability to the goals and actions outlined in the OCDSB Indigenous Education, Equity and Human Rights Roadmap. As a settler/colonizer living and working on land that remains the unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg people, she recognizes this ever-present reminder of the inherent rights of Indigenous people, including the right to an education that centres Indigenous histories, perspectives and voices. Shannon is currently reading Colour Matters: Essays on the Experiences, Education, and Pursuits of Black Youth by Dr. Carl James.

Steve Smith is an experienced secondary Health and Physical Education teacher, who presently oversees all of the secondary interscholastic athletics as the co-athletic co-ordinator for the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association.

Siobhan McComb is part of the OCDSB's Program and Learning Central Team, currently focusing on destreaming grade 9 math.

Joe Ross is the OCDSB's Secondary Science Instructional Coach within the Program and Learning Central team.  He was the Science Department Head at Gloucester High School, a science teacher at Glebe Collegiate Institute and an elementary science teacher at Trillium Elementary School and Alta Vista Public School.  Joe was also a member of the writing team for the grade 7 and 8 science curriculum and is currently leading the district destreaming science team.  Lastly, Joe has led a unique Indigenous STEM program at Gloucester High School and continues to collaborate with the Indigenous Education team to develop and deliver culturally relevant and responsive learning opportunities for Indigenous students.

Jessica McGregor is a Secondary FSL Instructional Coach, and is part of the OCDSB's Program and Learning Central team. She works collaboratively with elementary instructional coaches and secondary teachers to support student learning. 

Greg Hicks is part of the OCDSB's Innovation and Adolescent Learning's Central team, and is the Technology and Trades lead for our school board.

Susanna Donato is a passionate Arts Instructional Coach who supports teachers from K-12. She is part of the OCDSB's Program and Learning Central team where she specializes in Special Education and supports all learners. She is also a Visual Artist creating landscapes with fibers. She believes that expressing learning and understanding through the arts helps students succeed in communicating in their own language.

Kim Bruton is an Instructional Coach, and part of the OCDSB's Program and Learning Central team. She's been a high school CWS and SS teacher with the OCDSB for 20 years.

Sheri Eady is the Head of Student Services at South Carleton High School.

Toula Makris is the head of Student Services at Canterbury High School.

Farhana Moshira is part of the OCDSB's Innovation and Adolescent Learning's Central team, and is the lead for the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program.

Lydia Hamilton is part of the OCDSB's Innovation and Adolescent Learning's Central team, and is the lead for the Specialist High Skills Major Programs.

Richard Grignon is part of the OCDSB's Innovation and Adolescent Learning's Central team, and is the Co-op and Guidance lead.

As the Mental Health Lead for the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, Emily Balla provides system wide consultation and direction for the implementation of student mental health promotion, prevention and intervention strategies.  Emily has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years providing direct service in hospital, school and community settings.  She believes deeply that the center of mental health and wellness lies in community and that our foundation must be built on genuine, caring and compassionate relationships with one another.

Laurie Labelle is an OCDSB Vice-Principal, currently at Cairine Wilson Secondary School. As one of the key founders of the Link Crew Program in the OCDSB, she has worked in 4 different high OCDSB schools, contributing and supporting Link Crew. She will be joined by 2 grade 12 Link Leaders Amy Simcoe and Anita Suthakaran as well as Zoya Sadikali, a grade 9 student to discuss their personal experience with Link Crew

Sue Rice (ze/her) is the OCDSB's Equity Instructional Coach, Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Division.

Kusha Dadui (he/they) is the OCDSB's Trans and Gender Diverse Student Support Coordinator. He is a Transmasculine Muslim person with almost two decades of experience working with Trans and Gender Diverse youth. Kusha is available to meet virtually with students to provide individual and group support and connections to community resources. He can also provide virtual group consultation for staff and deliver training for both elementary and high schools.

Lorna Evans (she/her/elle) is part of the Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Division of the OCDSB. She is an Equity Instructional Coach with a focus on anti racism.

Sean Oussoren has been with the OCDSB since 1998 and is currently seconded as the International Education Coordinator for OCENET, the international learning partner of the OCDSB. From grade 3 at Queen Elizabeth PS to grade 5/6 at Fielding Drive and grade 7/8 at Glashan, Sean has worked alongside so many amazing educators who have inspired and guided him. He has also been fortunate to have lived, taught and learned in Ecuador, Portugal and China. All of these experiences have reminded him (again and again and again) of how important intercultural understanding, patience, flexibility and communication are. Sean also believes in spending time with his family (including 24/7 during a year around the world in 2017-18, bicycling everywhere (even through Ottawa's winter), volleyball and badminton, field trips as much as possible, having students cook in the classroom (grade 3 holiday dinner please!) and making plenty of mistakes along the way.

Denise Abrantes Leite is the Continuing Education Officer for Secondary Credit Programs / Literacy and Numeracy.

Jacqueline Lawrence is the Diversity & Equity Coordinator for the OCDSB.

As a System Principal of Program and Learning, Kristin Riddell works closely with system departments and schools to build practices that ensure that one’s identity and lived experience are deeply valued.  Her commitment and desire to make a difference is connected in the belief that education must honour every student and spark joy and curiosity in their lives. The district work in destreaming is paramount to support universal design, culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy and differentiated instruction for all students to access learning.

From grade 3 at Queen Elizabeth PS to grade 5/6 at Fielding Drive and grade 7/8 at Glashan, Sean has worked alongside so many amazing educators who have inspired and guided him. He has also been fortunate to have lived, taught and learned in Ecuador, Portugal and China. All of these experiences have reminded him (again and again and again) of how important intercultural understanding, patience, flexibility and communication are. Sean also believes in spending time with his family (including 24/7 during a year around the world in 2017-18, bicycling everywhere (even through Ottawa's winter), volleyball and badminton, field trips as much as possible, having students cook in the classroom (grade 3 holiday dinner please!) and making plenty of mistakes along the way.

Anne McKillop-Ostrom is the Principal of Continuing Education and Outdoor Education Centres.

Denise Abrantes Leite is the Continuing Education Officer for Secondary Credit Programs / Literacy and Numeracy.

Nectaria Karagiozis is the Program Officer for the International & Indigenous Languages Program (Elementary & Secondary).
